And the hardest part? Sometimes those messages came from people who genuinely loved us. Family. Friends. Even church. Not because they meant harm — but because they were working from a script, too.
TRUTH: God never wrote that script.
He never looked at you and said, "Tone it down." He never planted a garden inside of you and then told you not to grow.
Psalm 139:14 says, "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" (NIV).
Full well. Not half-heartedly. Not with an asterisk with small print. Full well. That means every gift He placed in you, every dream He whispered into your spirit, every piece of your personality that makes you uniquely you — all of it was on purpose. All of it was by His divine design.
So why do so many of us walk through life as though we need someone else's approval to step into the fullness of who we already are?
Think about the woman at the well in John 4. She came to draw water in the heat of the day — alone, avoiding the crowd, living small because of what her past said about her. And Jesus didn't look at her and say, "You should probably keep hiding." He met her right where she was and spoke life into the places she had been shrinking. He didn't just give her permission to bloom — He showed her she had been carrying the seed all along.
That's what real permission looks like. It doesn't come from the crowd. It doesn't come from a boss, a spouse, a friend, or a comment section. It comes from the One who made you and called you good before you ever performed, produced, or proved a single thing.
"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." — Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
You were made for something good. You are His handiwork. And the work He prepared for you was set in motion before you ever second-guessed yourself. Before you ever pulled back from the microphone, dimmed your smile in a room full of people, or talked yourself out of the calling that keeps nudging your heart at 2 a.m.
There's a garden metaphor that fits this season so beautifully. A flower doesn't bloom because it gets permission from the other flowers. It blooms because the sun hits the soil, the roots go deep, and it does what it was made to do. It doesn't apologize for its color. It doesn't shrink because the flower next to it is a different shape. It simply opens — fully, unapologetically — because that is its design.
You were designed the same way.
"One step at a time leads to miles of greatness." — Kristianne Wargo
And blooming isn't about being loud for the sake of being loud. It's about being whole. It's about no longer cutting off the parts of yourself that make other people uncomfortable. It's about loving your reflection — not the edited version, not the watered-down version — the real one. The one God sees when He looks at you.
Some women are waiting for a sign. Some are waiting for the right time. Some are waiting for someone to look them in the eye and say, "It's okay. You can be all of who you are now."
So here it is: This is your permission slip. Not from me — from the One who knit you together in your mother's womb and has never once regretted a single thread.
"The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing." — Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)
He is rejoicing over you. Not the smaller version. Not the quieter version. You. The full, radiant, called-for-such-a-time-as-this version of you.
The K.I.S.S. ~ Bloom out loud! So the question becomes — what would it look like to stop dimming yourself and start living like you actually believe that?
1. IDENTIFY one area you've minimized
This area you have dimmed yourself might be your voice, your gifts, your calling — and take one step into fullness this week. Maybe it's sharing the idea you've been sitting on. Maybe it's saying yes to the opportunity you've been talking yourself out of. Maybe it's just letting yourself be seen. Name it, and move toward it.
2. REJECT one "should" or "shouldn't"
What one should or shouldn't has kept you small , and replace it with what God says about you. Write it down. Put it where you'll see it. If the old script says "You shouldn't take up that much space," let your new truth be: "I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and I was built for this." Speak it until you believe it — because it was true before you ever said it out loud.
3. SHOW UP fully
In one designated area this week, like a conversation, a room, a decision, show up fully without shrinking. Don't apologize for your passion. Don't soften your conviction to make everyone else comfortable. Walk in as the woman God made you to be, and let the bloom speak for itself.
"Permission to bloom isn't something you wait for — it's something you walk in." — Kristianne Wargo
You were not planted to stay small. You were not rooted in faith just to hide beneath the soil. You were made to break through — to reach for the light, to stretch toward everything God has already prepared. Loving your reflection means looking in the mirror and seeing what He sees: a woman in full bloom, unapologetically radiant and unashamed.
So bloom, my friend. Bloom out loud. Let no one, especially yourself, convince you that the garden doesn't need exactly what you carry.
Now go — Create your now!
"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"
