A circuit judge and his wife, shot dead in their own home on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The reason: money the judge never stole. In 1987, Judge Vincent Sherry and his wife Margaret, a Biloxi city councilwoman, were murdered in a plot traced back to a prison scam run from Louisiana's Angola penitentiary, a lawyer who allegedly blamed the wrong man, and a criminal network known as the Dixie Mafia. For two years, local authorities got nowhere. Then the FBI stepped in, and an eight-year investigation exposed a corrupt sheriff's office, a city that tolerated organized crime, and a murder-for-hire plot that reached into the mayor's office. Part of The FBI Files, based on real case history.
