Today’s guest is Andy Miller, the visionary CEO and Co-Founder of Heaps Normal, the independent, Aussie-owned non-alc beer company.
Back in 2020, Andy and his co-founders set themselves a pretty ambitious mission: create an alcohol-free beer that actually tasted like beer, and that pubs and bars would genuinely want to stock. Five years later, they’ve done exactly that, with Heaps Normal becoming a staple in fridges and on taps in thousands of pubs around Australia.
We chat to Andy about growing up “in a Bluey episode”, the early days of Heaps Normal and what actually makes a good pub. Andy gives us his top five favourite beers, Gem learns the surprisingly fascinating ins and outs of how pub lines are cleaned, and Haylee gets to fangirl over one of her favourite topics: beer.
Whether you’ve been meaning to finally crack a can of Heaps Normal or you’re already a long-time fan, this episode is a lot of fun, and you might even learn a thing or two along the way.

This podcast is recorded on the lands of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and that this always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
