Once upon a time, Lucy Small won a longboard competition in Australia. Her prize money, however, was only a fraction of what her male counterparts received. She voiced her displeasure at the awards ceremony. And so began the story of a surfer who became a filmmaker. Even though her name might suggest otherwise, Lucy Small’s story is no fairy tale, and even today, women are fighting for greater equality both in the water and on land.
