Every Friday night, an elderly man visits a quiet convenience store and buys the same two things: a small packet of milk and a bag of cookies. He always comes alone, and the young clerk behind the counter has begun to wonder who the treats are for. Curiosity leads the clerk through the city’s darkened streets to an old junkyard, where the customer is waiting with a story he has rarely told. It begins with a childhood game, a hiding place chosen too well, and a door that would not open from the inside. Seventy years later, the man still returns to the place where he once waited for someone to find him.
