Seeking a quieter end to a night out, a skeptical narrator settles into a London bar, expecting little more than cheap whiskey and football on television. Then a young woman with bright red hair, ruined makeup, and someone else’s drink drying on her clothes takes the neighboring stool. She introduces herself as Lucifer, though she’s happy to answer to Lucy. Concerned that she needs help, the narrator offers to call someone. Lucy would prefer a cocktail and a chance to tell her story. Her proposition seems simple: hear her out before deciding what to do about her. But as she talks about Eden, her father, and the circumstances of her fall, the conversation becomes increasingly difficult to dismiss. Her humor conceals a deep resentment, and the certainty behind her impossible claims begins to make the crowded bar feel disturbingly isolated. Settle in for an intimate, unsettling encounter with a stranger who has plenty to say—and every intention of being heard.
