In 1903, the silk farmers of Mount Lebanon's Kisrawan district rose up against the Ottoman tax collectors and the local feudal landlords, burning down the palace of the al-Khoury family and demanding land reform. This episode follows the uprising's leader, Yusuf al-Khazin, a qabaday from the Maronite village of Ghosta, who united Christian and Druze peasants against the Mutasarrifiyya's corrupt tax system. We explore how the 1903 Kisrawan Revolt foreshadowed the 1958 and 1975 civil wars by exposing the deep class and sectarian tensions embedded in Lebanon's feudal economy.
