In January 1976, four months into Lebanon's civil war, a neighborhood called Karantina became the site of one of the conflict's earliest and most brutal massacres. This episode follows the chain of events from the bus shooting in Ain al-Rummaneh through the rise of armed militias, the siege of the Tel al-Zaatar camp, and the Phalangist assault on Karantina. We examine how the massacre of hundreds of Palestinian refugees and Lebanese Muslims hardened sectarian lines, triggered a Druze and Palestinian counterattack on Damour, and pushed the country deeper into a war from which it never fully recovered. Featuring names like Pierre Gemayel, Bashir Gemayel, the Murabitun, and the Palestine Liberation Army.
