Scientists have created a cold, uniform beam of muonium atoms, opening a new way to test how exotic matter responds to gravity.
Using superfluid helium, researchers can now control these short-lived particles well enough to test the equivalence principle on second-generation matter for the first time. If muonium falls differently from ordinary matter, it could reveal a fifth fundamental force and challenge our understanding of gravity. An interferometer experiment planned for the coming years could provide the answer.
