On Iron Gate Seven, an abandoned refugee-expanded station orbiting a gas giant, eleven months of isolation have allowed a silent infestation to take over the infrastructure. Wireghost squad enters the derelict corridors to install a bypass module in the relay core and restore the sector's fallback command link. But Needlebacks—soft-bodied ambush predators that perfectly mimic structural surfaces—are waiting in the walls.

The organisms trigger a reproductive bloom based on biomass concentration, shedding their disguises to swarm the soldiers. Compounding the threat, microscopic silica spines shatter and migrate deeper into bone with every movement, meaning any physical contact or struggle causes unavoidable mechanical damage. As the squad attempts to breach a vacuum-sealed pressure door to bypass a collapsed corridor, the walls around them peel away to reveal a living trap.

Sequential pressure seal failures cut off the retreat path, trapping the squad in a vacuum-exposed segment with shifting gravity shears. With the extraction window closing and the wounded left behind, the narrator clutches the mission module and crosses a catwalk over a vertical shaft. The gravity suddenly reverses, throwing him into the cable bundles below—he grabs a line to stop his fall, but the cable flexes against his grip.
