Ahoy, me hearties! ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ

We're back for Episode 21, and this time we're sailing dangerously close to the shores of complete and utter nonsense!

We've got pirates with questionable body parts, horoscopes that are suspiciously accurate, emergency samosas, a burglar confronted by a coat hanger, and those people who start telling you a story on Monday and are still explaining what colour the curtains were by Thursday! ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

So grab a cuppa, hide the biscuits and prepare for another gloriously unpredictable helping of Herefordshire Hearsay!

Episode 21 is underway! It's been two weeks since the last episode, so naturally there's plenty to catch up on, several stories to tell and absolutely no guarantee we'll stay on topic.

Business as usual, then! ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐ŸฅŸ

We kick things off with some absolutely wonderful news!

Lee's Place has scooped another award, this time at the Hereford Times Community Awards, held in the magnificent Hereford Cathedral! ๐Ÿ†

There was cheering, celebrating, a fabulous atmosphere and some very excited volunteers!

We also give a big shout-out to other deserving winners, recognising the incredible work being done across Herefordshire.

And then there's the small matter of a 45-mile walking challenge throughout October in support of BowelBabe and bowel cancer awareness.

Naturally, no sensible walking expedition would be complete withoutโ€ฆ

๐Ÿฅพ A very important walking stick.

๐ŸŽ’ A rucksack full of emergency supplies.

๐ŸฅŸ A vegetable samosa in case of disaster.

๐ŸŒญ Two sausage rolls nobody wanted.

And a walking companion called Dave who was apparently determined to leave Pauline somewhere in the woods!

There were no bears, no whittling and thankfully no need for emergency rescue services.

But at least if civilisation collapsed, Pauline had lunch sorted! ๐Ÿ˜‚

What would YOU grab if you heard a burglar in the middle of the night?

A baseball bat? A torch? Your phone?

Not in this household!

When a mysterious crash sent everyone into panic mode, one husband charged around in his underpants while his wife prepared to defend the family home withโ€ฆ

A COAT HANGER! ๐Ÿ‘—๐Ÿคฃ

Luckily, the intruder turned out to be a picture falling off the wall.

The criminal underworld can breathe a sigh of relief.

It's poetry time!

We discuss why a good old-fashioned limerick is sometimes far more entertaining than a poem you need three university degrees to understand.

There's a specially composed walking limerick involving Dave, a stick and a cave, plus some thoughts on why analysing poetry to death rather takes the fun out of it.

Shakespeare, eat your heart out! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Do you love receiving flowers, or would you rather have something that doesn't wilt after a week?

One of us loves buying fresh flowers every week.

The other would apparently be quite happy with a case of beer! ๐Ÿบ

Romance is alive and well on Herefordshire Hearsay!

But a surprise bunch of flowers outside Sainsbury's leads to something rather lovely

We meet Scotty and Paul from Caring for Communities and People (CCP), who are spreading smiles by giving away surplus flowers donated through Sainsbury's.

Instead of letting perfectly lovely flowers go to waste, they're handing them out to unsuspecting shoppers.

And what a wonderful reaction they're getting! โค๏ธ

It's a simple gesture that makes a big difference, and we couldn't resist stopping for a chat to find out more.

Back in the studio, we reflect on our lovely encounter and the difference a little kindness can make.

There's also a wonderful reminder of how local charities, community organisations and volunteers support one another.

Not everything on this podcast is nonsense, you know!

Sometimes we even manage to be heartwarming. โค๏ธ

ARRRRR! โ˜ ๏ธ

We're hoisting the Jolly Roger and diving into the wonderfully strange world of pirates!

Did they really make people walk the plank?

Why did they wear eye patches?

What was the fascination with earrings, buried treasure and rum?

And who were the fearsome women who ruled the high seas?

We explore some surprising pirate stories, struggle to remember Captain Hook's name, and discover a rather unfortunate pirate whose peg leg was made of MEAT! ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿฆˆ

Yes, really.

There's even a pirate limerick.

We apologise in advance to any serious maritime historians listening! ๐Ÿ˜‚

We've got a BRAND-NEW feature!

Introducing the mysterious Diana Sterling and her wonderfully entertaining astrological predictions! ๐ŸŒŸ

Apparently, the stars have plenty to say about us.

โ™‘ Capricorns are advised to stop being so ridiculously organised because they're making everyone else look bad!

โ™“ Pisces should look out for mysterious signs from the universe, although a parcel that's been eight stops away for 45 minutes probably isn't one of them!

๐Ÿ’• Romance could be on the horizon, especially if someone makes you a cup of tea without being asked.

๐Ÿช And if you're caught sitting down eating biscuits, don't feel guilty. Your astrologer specifically advised it!

Finally, some cosmic guidance we can get behind!

Will Diana's predictions come true? Will the stars align? Will that bloody parcel ever arrive?

Stay tuned! ๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ˜‚

You know those people.

The ones who can't tell you what they had for breakfast without first explaining what time they woke up, what the weather was doing, who lived next door in 1974 and whether Auntie Rita's dog was called Rusty!

YES. THOSE PEOPLE! ๐Ÿคฏ

We tackle the exhausting world of people who tell stories with FAR TOO MUCH DETAIL!

There's the man who took half an hour to describe someone knocking on his door, the people who refuse to take a breath, and the horrifying realisation that some stories simply have NO END.

Pauline has developed her own special technique for dealing with these conversational endurance tests:

"Is this a long story? Because I'm on holiday in three weeks' time!" ๐Ÿ˜‚

If you've ever found yourself trapped in a conversation while your eyes glaze over and your soul quietly leaves your body, this one's for you!

Why do we wake up in the middle of the night?

Does drinking coffee after dinner keep you awake?

And when did ordering a simple cup of coffee become so complicated and expensive?

We reminisce about the days when coffee came in two varieties โ€” black or white โ€” and nobody needed a dictionary to order one!

Although coffee and walnut cake is an entirely different matter.

Now THAT we can agree on! ๐Ÿ˜‹

Halloween is creeping closer, and Herefordshire is getting spooky!

We hear about Hallow Fields by Night at Townsend Farm in Pembridge, where pumpkins, spooky trails and live actors promise plenty of screams!

Even local baker Simon from Aymestrey Patisserie is getting involved in the frightening festivities.

Apparently, it's scary enough to give even the bravest visitors a fright!

If you'd rather avoid the nightmares, there's always the daytime pumpkin patch.

Much safer. Probably. ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ˜‚
