In the third episode of the Golden Thread's suffrage arc, Harmonia carries us to Christchurch, New Zealand, where Kate Sheppard turned a global temperance network into a patient, decades-spanning campaign for women's suffrage. Through three escalating petitions and repeated legislative defeats, ordinary women added their names again and again until New Zealand became, in 1893, the first self-governing country to grant women the vote - proof that consultation, not confrontation, can move even the most reluctant institutions.
