Emmeline B. Wells and the Vote That Vanished

In the sixth episode of our suffrage arc, Harmonia stands beside Emmeline B. Wells at a Salt Lake City polling place in February 1870, one of the first mornings American women ever cast a ballot under an equal suffrage law. Seventeen years later, that right is stripped away by an act of Congress aimed at ending polygamy in the Utah Territory - and Emmeline, a plural wife, editor, and tireless advocate, keeps writing, organizing, and building toward a right she no longer holds. Her story becomes a meditation on faith as action rather than certainty, and on setbacks as sometimes the necessary middle of a longer story rather than its ending.
