'I Bow My Knee' was written by Bonnie Deuschle. This great song is firmly established in the writer's personal journey of overcoming a broken childhood and her role in pioneering modern worship music in Africa.
'I Bow My Knee' is ONE of the songs released from a Hosanna! Integrity Music project entitled 'Majesty', and was Recorded at The Vines Center in Lynchburg, Virginia with Worship Leader Ron Kenoly and was Produced and Arranged by Tom Brooks.
The writer's early life in Pennsylvania was filled with trauma. She grew up in an abusive, broken home with an alcoholic father who later abandoned the family and committed suicide.
After moving to Zimbabwe as a Missionary, the writer's approach to worship became focused on pure surrender. She had frequently spoken about how worship is a deliberate act of the will to dispose of bitterness, resentment, and past suffering.
The words of 'I Bow My Knee' displays this total surrender, focusing on seeking "the giver, not the gift"...a point of absolute humility regardless of life's circumstances.
Verse 1 of this great song says it this way...
I bow my knee before Your throne,
I know my life is not my own,
I offer up a song of praise
To bring You pleasure Lord.
