Alec Burleson is having a historic breakout season for the Cardinals, leading MLB in RBIs with 111 and doubles with 37 while smashing a career-high 23 homers—stats that place him in elite company alongside legends like Pujols and Goldschmidt. At just 27, he’s quietly become one of baseball’s most valuable players, anchoring a vastly improved first base lineup after the Contreras trade. With years of team control remaining, extending Burleson now isn’t just smart—it’s essential, as his production and leadership are critical to the team’s future contention window.
