Why a loving relationship can still reveal a meaningful misalignment
Some of the hardest relationship decisions happen when nothing is obviously wrong.
There is love.
There is kindness.
There is affection.
There is respect.
And still, the future may not fit.
In this episode of Love By Design, I explore what happens when a relationship is genuinely good, but something essential about the life available together no longer aligns with what you know you need.
I share a personal experience of being in one of the kindest relationships of my life, and how difficult it was to recognize that I had started negotiating with myself because the relationship itself felt so good.
We talk about:
- Why a good relationship can be harder to question than a clearly unhealthy one
- The difference between flexibility and slowly abandoning your own requirements
- Why love, gratitude and history do not automatically answer the question of future fit
- How potential can keep us attached to a future that is not actually being built
- Why repeated participation matters more than beautiful intentions
- How to distinguish preferences from deeper relationship requirements
- Why someone does not have to be wrong, harmful or unloving for the relationship not to fit
- How to grieve a meaningful relationship without turning it into a failure
One of the questions at the heart of this episode is:
Am I accepting reality, or am I changing my requirements so I do not have to face it?
If this brings a relationship to mind, ask yourself:
What have I actually observed?
What has changed?
What has not changed?
What are we actively building together?
What am I hoping will eventually happen?
Is that hope supported by present participation?
You do not have to rush to an answer.
But there is a difference between giving something time and refusing to see what time has already shown you.
Love can be real.
The relationship can be good.
And the future can still not fit.
