Wanting a relationship and having the capacity to participate in one are not always the same thing.

In this episode of Love By Design, I’m reflecting on the year I stepped away from dating and what that season taught me about readiness, emotional bandwidth, and the kind of relationship I actually had room to build.

I had spent years moving from one relationship into another. Relationships brought out a version of me that felt more playful, more alive, more connected. But after several meaningful relationships still ended in misalignment, I needed to understand who I was outside of partnership.

That meant asking harder questions.

  • What did my life genuinely have space for?
  • What kind of relationship could I participate in without shrinking myself?
  • What had I overlooked when choosing partners in the past?
  • And what does being available for love actually look like in practice?

We also talk about why chemistry cannot create capacity, why pacing matters, and why readiness does not mean becoming perfectly healed before allowing love into your life.

One idea to sit with:

If the relationship you say you want arrived today, what would your life genuinely have room to give it?

How clearly do you read a relationship when your feelings are involved?
