夏の邦画祭り、第二弾！
夏らしい映画といえば何でしょう。人それぞれだと思いますが、僕らが選んだのは岩井俊二監督のこの名作です。
儚い少年時代の恋物語、とも読めるんですが……「恋」と呼ぶにはあまりに未完成で、あまりに言葉が足りない。自分の気持ちに名前もつけられないまま、ティーンエイジャーになる直前の子どもたちが、夏の夜の花火に何かを重ねている——そんな作品です。

Ask someone what makes a perfect summer film and you'll get a different answer every time. For this episode, the pick is this classic by director Shunji Iwai.
You could read it as a fragile little love story set in boyhood — but calling it "love" feels like too much. Too clean a word for something so unfinished, so wordless. These are kids who can't yet name what they're feeling, standing on the edge of becoming teenagers, watching fireworks explode against a summer night sky and placing something nameless onto them.
