S2 Episode 21: Why Monday Still Feels Like Sunday Night
You cleared the weekend, did almost nothing, and still came back on Monday exactly as tired as you left. This episode is for the neurodivergent adult who has started to believe they're broken at a level rest can't reach, and for the partner who protected that time and quietly wondered why nothing changed.
Blaze separates two things ordinary language treats as one. Rest is the absence of activity. Recovery is the reduction of demand, and demand is a much wider category: unmade decisions, unfinished conversations, sensory load, low-level social presentation at home, and the dread of something already on Friday's calendar. Drawing on Raymaker and colleagues' community-defined description of autistic burnout, she names a second error too: burnout builds over weeks and months, so nine days off measured against three years of load will always read as failure.
Through Asher's story and a couple's story, the episode holds both people: the one apologizing for a holiday that didn't work, and the one who cleared the calendar and found the result frightening. What helped wasn't a better holiday. It was closing one open decision in an afternoon, a few hours alone in the garage, and budgeting the week after as part of the week.
One Emotional Takeaway: You're not failing at rest. You're measuring with the wrong unit against a load nobody counted.
