S2 Episode 23: RSD Is Not Drama — It's a Neurological Reality
A short reply, a flat tone, a plan changed without a word, and suddenly a huge feeling hits before there is any time to think. This episode is for the adult with ADHD who has been called dramatic, and for the partner who has watched that sting land over something small and quietly started choosing every word very carefully.
Blaze names rejection sensitive dysphoria plainly: not a formal diagnosis, and thinly researched, so she speaks from what she sees in practice. The sting arrives in the body before thought, it feels total, and it reads everything for one question: am I about to lose this person. That is why it reacts to withdrawal as strongly as to criticism, and why a partner’s gentle carefulness can land as one more sign that something is wrong.
Siobhan and Aditya lived that loop for years, right down to a “running late” text sent with a sunflower, two hearts and a small cartoon bear holding a sorry sign. What loosened it was two plain sentences agreed on a calm Sunday: “That landed hard. Give me ten minutes. It’s not about you,” and “Did that land sideways?” Aditya stopped guessing and padding, and Siobhan got his plain voice back.
One Emotional Takeaway: Careful isn’t the same as close. Say the plain thing, kindly, and keep talking.
