The Haunted House is a free short story by Elizabeth Frances that follows five adventurous friends — brave Leon, curious Floyd, and three sisters, Hazel, Phyllis, and little Effie — as they dare to explore a crumbling mansion with a tragic past. The house is said to be haunted by a French nobleman's daughter and her doomed artist lover. When the older children spot something white lurking in the windows, fear takes hold — until the youngest member of the group wanders inside alone, calling for her missing cat.
