Halloween At The Orphanage is a short story that opens on a disappointing Halloween evening, as the children of an orphanage learn there will be no party this year — the cost of caring for a record number of children has left no money for treats or celebrations. Teddy, Lucy, and the other children try to hide their sadness while devoted caretaker Mother Farley mends socks and quietly shares their disappointment. Then the doorbell rings, and everything changes.
