"Playing Halloween Elf" is a short Halloween story about six young friends — Ted, Ray, Rob, May, Eva, and Ida — who are left out of their older siblings' Halloween celebrations and told they are too young to join in. Rather than sulk, Eva sparks an idea that turns their disappointment into something unexpected: each child takes on an elf name and sets off on a secret mission of kindness for their neighbours.
