The "Go-Sleep" Story is a soothing children's bedtime story in which a dog, two kittens, three bunnies, four geese, and five chicks each wonder if little Baby Ray has gone to sleep yet. One by one, the animals slip out in their white nightgowns and tiptoe to the porch, where Ray's mother tells a growing, rhythmic story that adds each new visitor in turn. With every visit the lullaby-like refrain grows longer — and Baby Ray's eyes grow heavier — until at last all his beloved animal friends witness him drifting off.
