In 2019, U.S. Navy personnel aboard the USS Russell recorded night-vision footage showing bright triangular lights near naval vessels off Southern California. The video was later confirmed as genuine Navy footage and quickly became associated with claims of "pyramid-shaped" UFOs.
However, optical analysis suggests the triangular appearance may have been caused by bokeh, where out-of-focus lights take on the shape of a camera aperture. This could explain the geometry without proving the existence of triangular craft. The broader encounters around Navy ships remain more complicated, with possibilities including drones, aircraft, balloons, distant lights, or multiple unrelated phenomena.
