The USS Kidd Drone Swarms – Who Surrounded the Warships (2019)

In July 2019, several U.S. Navy destroyers off Southern California, including the USS Kidd, reported repeated encounters with unidentified aerial objects described in official records as UAVs or drones. The objects appeared over multiple nights, sometimes in groups, and remained close enough to trigger observation teams and counter-drone measures.

The available evidence suggests a real operational and security problem, but the identity of the operators has never been publicly confirmed. Possibilities include civilian drones, surveillance platforms, foreign intelligence activity, or several unrelated causes. The case is significant not because the objects displayed impossible technology, but because unknown aircraft were apparently able to approach advanced warships repeatedly without a clear attribution.
