On March 13, 1997, thousands of people across Arizona witnessed one of the largest mass UFO sightings in U.S. history. Witnesses reported a massive V-shaped formation of lights, and many claimed the lights were attached to an enormous silent craft that moved slowly across the night sky.
Later that evening, a second group of stationary lights appeared near Phoenix and was officially explained as military illumination flares dropped during training exercises. However, many researchers argue that this explanation only accounts for the later lights and does not explain the earlier reports of a huge moving object observed by thousands of witnesses.
Years later, renewed investigations, witness interviews, and computer reconstructions revealed remarkable consistency in descriptions of the object's size, shape, and movement. Former Arizona Governor Fife Symington, who initially mocked the event, later stated that he personally witnessed something extraordinary that did not resemble conventional aircraft.
The Phoenix Lights remain one of the most significant UFO cases ever recorded, not because of a single photograph or radar track, but because thousands of independent witnesses reported seeing the same mysterious phenomenon across an entire state.
