To the best of my knowledge

We use this expression to mean: “As far as I know, based on the information I have.”

It’s useful when you believe something is true, but you don’t want to sound more certain than you really are.

Example

Imagine you’re talking about someone you went to school with years ago.

A friend asks:

“Does she still live in Paris?”

You say:

“To the best of my knowledge, yes. I think she’s still there.”

You haven’t spoken to her recently, so things may have changed.
