ADHD Summer Special 5: Ancient Fires, Morning Brain Fog & Ted Lasso Detours

Dela

Welcome back to ADHDville, the only place where distractions are landmarks and details are the main roads! It’s our Summer Special, and we’re kicking things off by cracking open the ADHDville Gazette for some seriously relatable chaos.

This week, your hosts Martin and Amy are diving into the archives to find the very first description of ADHD... from ancient Greece. We break down why this ancient (and hilariously inaccurate) theory might still resonate today.  Speaking of hyperfocus, we get real about the struggle: the kind of focus that means you’ll literally forget to eat lunch, pee, or answer a text until you’re about to pass out. It’s a superpower that comes with a side of protein bars eaten one-handed while hanging wallpaper.

We also tackle a big one: Why is it so damn hard to wake up in the morning? We dive into the new science of "sleep inertia" and discover that our brains just don’t have a reliable alarm clock. Spoiler: It’s not your fault you’re groggy—your brain's "master alarm" (the Locus Coeruleus, if you want to get fancy) just isn't cooperating.

Plus, a detour into Ted Lasso (because of course), a chat about the dangers of Googling your symptoms, and a surprising connection between temperature regulation and that groggy feeling.

So grab a coffee (or a gallon of water to cool that Hippocratic fire), and settle in. And as always, be kind to yourself.
