Are the 5-0 Vikings Real Super Bowl Contenders? O’Connell’s Offensive Evolution with Kyler Murray — Tyler Forness and Dave Stefano discuss the 5-0 Minnesota Vikings and whether they’re true Super Bowl contenders, focusing on an offense that is improving while a dominant defense and strong special teams drive complementary football and keep defenders fresh by reducing plays and controlling possession. They note the Saints were held to 142 yards and that two red-zone fumbles prevented a bigger Vikings score, while injuries limited offensive starters with key players expected back after the bye. The hosts argue Kevin O’Connell consistently adapts schemes to his quarterbacks and is now evolving the offense with Kyler Murray through more quick-game and base concepts while selectively chasing explosives, citing time-to-throw splits, EPA and success-rate trends, and examples like the near-touchdown flea flicker. They critique a failed double-pass trick play, debate when creativity is appropriate, and speculate trade-deadline priorities may target defensive line depth; they also mention wide receiver workouts and question Murray’s missed read to Jauan Jennings.
