This week I sat down with Woniya Thibeault, the first woman to ever win a solo survival challenge on Alone, and our conversation cracked something wide open for me. We talked about what it really means to choose yourself before life forces the decision for you, and why the loneliest kind of starving is the kind you feel sitting right next to your person. If you have ever wondered whether walking away from something is giving up or finally listening to your own body, this one is for you.
✨ Topics Covered
➡️ Why emotional isolation can be harder to survive than physical starvation
➡️ The difference between tapping out in defeat and choosing yourself in power
➡️ How your body sends the signals long before your mind is ready to listen
➡️ Why the ones who "brute force" their way through tend to crumble first
➡️ Finding healing and surrender in the wild instead of more suffering

Woniya Thibeault has devoted her adult life to practicing and teaching the kinds of skills our ancestors used to thrive in the wild, from ecological awareness, to wild foods and medicine, to traditional crafts like hide tanning, basketry, and fiber arts. While she never considered herself a survivalist, she applied her skills on two seasons of Alone on the History Channel, finishing runner-up on Season 6 and, in 2021 on Alone Frozen, becoming the first woman to win a solo survival challenge. She wrote a book about her first season, Never Alone: A Solo Arctic Survival Journey, is working on her second Alone memoir, and teaches wilderness, ancestral, and off-grid living skills while offering training and consultation for Alone hopefuls and creators portraying survival.
