What exactly do the Calgary Flames have in Šimon Nemec? Boomer, Pinder and Rhett Warrener take a closer look at the 22-year-old defenceman, with Boomer admitting he's still not entirely sure what kind of player Nemec is going to be. Calgary paid a significant price to acquire the former second-overall pick from the New Jersey Devils, sending two conditional first-round picks, a second-round pick and defensive prospect Étienne Morin the other way in a deal that also brought Maxim Tsyplakov to the Flames. Nemec is coming off an 11-goal, 26-point season in 68 games with New Jersey and signed a five-year, $36.25 million contract with Calgary carrying a $7.25 million annual cap hit. That's a pretty serious investment in a young defenceman who's still trying to establish exactly what he is at the NHL level. Has Nemec shown enough since arriving in Calgary? Are the expectations simply too high because of his draft pedigree and the assets the Flames gave up? The boys debate what they've liked about his game, where he needs to improve and whether he can eventually become the impact defenceman Calgary believes it acquired.
