What does the future hold for Devin Cooley with the Calgary Flames? Pat Steinberg joins Boomer, Pinder and Rhett Warrener on The Insider Hotline to discuss one of Calgary's more interesting long-term goaltending questions. Cooley has quietly become an important part of the Flames' crease, posting a .909 save percentage in 31 games during the 2025-26 season before opening 2026-27 with a 4-3-0 record, a .914 save percentage and a 2.69 goals-against average through seven appearances. The 29-year-old is also on a very team-friendly contract, earning just $1.35 million per season through 2027-28 before becoming an unrestricted free agent. But Calgary has already committed seven years and $52.5 million to Dustin Wolf, whose $7.5 million annual cap hit makes him the clear long-term investment in goal. So what happens if Cooley continues playing this well? Could the Flames eventually consider trading him if another team makes an offer that's simply too good to turn down? What would his next contract look like, and how much money should Calgary realistically commit to a second goaltender? The boys discuss Cooley's development, his potential trade value and whether the Flames should simply enjoy having an affordable, reliable tandem for now. It might be a conversation for another day, but it's an interesting decision Craig Conroy could eventually have to make.
