In 1968 and 1969, Scottish newspapers reported that a haunted floating island on Loch Garry had broken loose and become wedged against a Bailey bridge near Greenfield. Known locally as Children’s Island, it was tied to an old kelpie legend in which seven children were carried into the loch by a water horse, and their red hearts were later said to have appeared on the winter water.
