Section 1

In 1 Corinthians 9:19, Dr. Dave explains that God's calling does not look identical for every believer. Some voluntarily enter ministry, while others, like the apostle Paul on the Damascus road, are unmistakably drafted into service. Some ministers support themselves through additional employment, while others devote themselves entirely to prayer and teaching. Neither approach establishes a universal requirement because God assigns different responsibilities to different people. Paul declares that although he is free from obligation to anyone, he willingly makes himself a servant to reach as many people as possible. This apparent contradiction reveals an essential Christian principle: believers are freed from unrighteousness so they can voluntarily serve God's kingdom. Spiritual freedom is not permission to live selfishly but an opportunity to honor God by serving others.

Section 2

Moving further into the epistle to Corinth, Dr. Dave examines Paul's comparison between Christian living and running a race. Every runner participates, but the instruction is to run with the determination necessary to win the prize. This does not mean trampling others or pursuing selfish ambition. Instead, believers must make their relationship with God their highest priority. Using a golfing illustration, Dr. Dave emphasizes that impressive beginnings mean little without a strong finish. Family, employment, possessions, and responsibilities all have legitimate places, but none should replace God at the center of life. Jesus taught believers to seek God's kingdom first, trusting Him with everything else. Dr. Dave challenges listeners to consider what they would do if suddenly given a billion dollars. The proper response is to surrender everything to God's direction rather than merely assigning Him a percentage.

Section 3

The teaching becomes deeply personal as Dr. Dave describes his love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family while insisting that none can provide the eternal purpose found in Jesus Christ. Remembering his first seventeen years apart from God, he contrasts that emptiness with the blessings of belonging to the Lord. Scripture makes clear that discipleship requires loving Jesus above family, possessions, and personal ambitions. This does not diminish love for others; it establishes the foundation that makes every other relationship meaningful. Psalm 23 reminds believers that the Lord is their shepherd, providing what they truly need. From morning until evening, Christians must continually renew their commitment to finishing the race faithfully. The greatest victory is not how impressively we begin, how much we accumulate, or how others applaud us, but whether we finish the race with God remaining first in everything.
