You like to be prepared.
You like having enough time to think things through. Enough information to make a smart decision. Enough space to review your work before you put it out into the world.
And honestly, that probably helped make you successful.
But then your career gets bigger.
There’s a meeting you didn’t have enough time to prepare for.
A decision that needs to be made before you have all the information.
A deliverable you can’t personally review.
A team member who does something differently than you would.
A week where five important things happen at the same time.
And suddenly, you find yourself thinking:
I need more time.
I need more information.
I need to check it.
I need to be involved.
I need to feel ready.
But what if those things aren’t actually requirements for you to do great work?
What if they’re simply your preferred way of operating?
In this episode of Breaking Free from the Grind, I’m diving in to discuss:
- Why your preferences can quietly become prerequisites - and how “I like to be fully prepared,” “I need more information,” or “I need to personally review it” can turn into beliefs that you need those conditions in order to do great work.
- Why you have to give yourself evidence that you can operate differently - because you can’t build trust in a new way of working by simply thinking your way into it. You build it by making the decision with less information, walking into the meeting less prepared, producing excellent work faster, or letting someone else take ownership and discovering that you can still handle the outcome.
- What self-trust actually looks like when your ideal conditions aren’t available - not believing you can do everything perfectly under any circumstances, but trusting yourself to figure out what the moment requires. Maybe it requires 100%. Maybe it requires 85%. Maybe it needs two hours. Maybe it needs ten minutes. Maybe you need to do it. Maybe someone else can.
Because you don’t need everything around you to be exactly right in order to lead well.
You need to know that you have range.
You can adapt.
You can make the decision with less information.
You can let someone else own the work.
You can deliver excellent work without endlessly refining it.
And you can trust yourself to know what this particular moment requires.
