Recce Pharmaceuticals Ltd chief executive James Graham talked with Proactive about the company’s Phase 3 trial of RECCE® 327 Gel, or R327G, for the treatment of diabetic foot infections in Indonesia and the upcoming review of trial data by an independent Data Monitoring Committee.

Graham said the study is targeting a significant unmet medical need, highlighting the prevalence of diabetes across Indonesia and the wider ASEAN region and the risk that diabetic ulcers can become infected. He said R327G is being positioned as a potential treatment specifically for diabetic foot ulcer infections.

Data from 75 patients has been submitted to the independent Data Monitoring Committee, which will assess the study’s efficacy and safety findings. Graham explained that the decision followed a review involving local and international infectious disease experts.

Graham also discussed the broader commercial opportunity in diabetic foot infections, the gel’s topical application directly to infected ulcers and Recce Pharmaceuticals’ wider anti-infective development pipeline.

That pipeline includes further work targeting the US market as well as US Department of Defense programs involving burn wound infections, surgical wound infections and chemical countermeasure threats.
