EP 143: Renee Harrison Talks Joining Netflix's A Different World, Learning From Debbie Allen and Jasmine Guy, and Carrying Hillman's Legacy to a New Generation
Hillman College is back in session, and Renee Harrison is part of the new class. On this episode of The Wayne Ayers Podcast, the actress behind Candace in Netflix's A Different World sits down with Wayne to talk about stepping onto one of TV's most iconic campuses nearly 40 years after the original premiered.
Renee opens up about landing the role and working alongside legends like Debbie Allen, Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison and Jenifer Lewis. She talks about filming on real HBCU campuses in Atlanta, and looks back at playing Aqueelah on All American: Homecoming and her role in The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat. She also shares what HBCU culture means to her and what she hopes is next for Candace now that Netflix has renewed the show for season 2.
Plus: fan questions, her Marvel-or-DC dream role, the biopic she'd love to make, and a spoiler-filled breakdown of that season 1 finale.
