What does real progress look like when the scale can’t measure it?
In this Twisted Tuesday episode of the F* It! Podcast, Amy gets candid
about an overwhelming week of stretching outside her comfort zone,
learning from her new coach, creating more intentional content, and
noticing where she has started compromising on some of the small
promises she makes to herself.
Those little promises may seem insignificant, but Amy explains why they
matter. When life feels exhausting or emotionally heavy, skipping the
habits that help you feel cared for can make things worse—not better.
After receiving biopsy results she wasn’t pleased with and allowing
herself a brief “pity party,” Amy comes back to a familiar lesson:
shortchanging herself in the areas of self-care does not serve her.
Then the episode shifts to another kind of progress—one that has taken
years to build.
Amy reflects on losing 90 pounds roughly 20 years ago and realizing that
reaching her goal weight did not automatically create a healthy
relationship with food. At the time, she was restrictive, divided foods
into “good” and “bad,” and struggled to trust herself around foods she
feared she might overeat.
Today, she can bake donut holes and cookies for her church café without
the same stress, obsession, or internal debate. The difference is not
simply willpower. It is the self-trust she has built by intentionally
including foods she once demonized, planning for out-of-routine
situations, understanding what she is eating, and making decisions in
advance.
Amy explains how pre-designing those decisions can reduce the constant
mental negotiation around food. Instead of living in an “on plan” versus
“off plan” mindset, she encourages creating a structure that allows real
life to fit into the process.
Most importantly, Amy challenges you to broaden the way you measure
success. Progress is not only your weight, clothing size, or appearance.
It is also how you feel around food, how you handle social situations,
whether you trust yourself, and whether foods that once controlled your
thoughts have lost their power.
If you still feel stressed around certain foods, Amy offers a practical
starting point: intentionally build a few of those foods into your plan
and prove to yourself that you can enjoy them while still making
progress.
Because the goal is not simply to reach a number. It is to become
someone who can trust herself when real life happens.
