I've been teaching Pilates for more than 20 years, so you might expect me to say that Pilates is the best form of exercise and everyone should be doing it.
But here's the truth: I love Pilates, but I don't think Pilates alone gives our bodies everything they need.
In this solo episode of the Mind Movement Health Podcast, I'm answering a question I've been thinking about for a while: Would I still do Pilates if I wasn't a Pilates instructor?
The answer is absolutely yes, but perhaps not for the reasons you might expect.
I share what Pilates continues to give me after more than two decades of teaching, from core strength, mobility and balance to body awareness, coordination and simply helping my body feel good.
But we also talk about where Pilates may not be enough on its own.
I explain why I've deliberately added strength training, cardiovascular exercise, walking and other forms of movement to my own routine, and why I believe a well-rounded approach to exercise becomes increasingly important as we get older.
Most importantly, this episode isn't about finding the "perfect" workout.
It's about asking a much bigger question:
What are you training for?
For me, it's not about burning the most calories or creating the perfect body. I want to build a capable body, one that allows me to travel, carry my own bags, walk for hours, get up and down from the floor, try new things and keep doing what I love for decades to come.
