What does it mean to be truly free? In a world where wounds, habits, and hidden battles often feel normal, Pastor Jon reminds us that Jesus didn’t come to help us manage captivity—He came to bring us out. As He said in John 8:36, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
In this message from our This We Believe series, Pastor Jon explores the biblical foundation of freedom through John 8, Luke 4, and Colossians 1. Freedom wasn’t a side project for Jesus—it was central to His ministry. He forgave sin, healed bodies, restored dignity, and confronted darkness everywhere He went. And He still sets people free today.
Pastor Jon also spoke pastorally to the reality we all face: salvation happens in a moment, but freedom is learned through surrender. Many of us have normalized patterns, wounds, or destructive habits, but Jesus wants access to every “room” of our lives—not to expose us, but to heal us. He walked us through a simple pathway toward freedom: Recognize, Repent, Renounce, Receive, and Resist.
This message is part of This We Believe: Exploring the Essential Truths That Shape Our Faith and Who We Are, a series on the authority of Scripture, who God is, the person and work of Jesus, the power of the Holy Spirit, the purpose of the Church, and our mission in the world.
