This We Believe: Baptism of the Holy Spirit

What does it mean to be empowered by the Holy Spirit? In a world that often feels heavy, confusing, and spiritually dry, Jaclyn Soza reminds us that God never intended His people to live without power. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit isn’t an upgrade for the “super spiritual”—it’s the promise of Jesus for every believer. As Jaclyn said, “Everybody gets to participate in what God is pouring out.”

In this message from our This We Believe series, Jaclyn explores the biblical foundation of Spirit baptism through Acts 1, Acts 2, and Matthew 3. The Holy Spirit doesn’t just dwell in us for salvation—He comes upon us for mission, boldness, freedom, and kingdom impact. “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you,” Jesus said, and Jaclyn shows how that same power is available to us today. From Elijah’s mantle to Pentecost, Scripture paints a clear picture: God empowers ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

She also speaks pastorally to every season of life—whether you’re hungry for more of God, wrestling with disappointment, or stepping into new faith—reminding us that hunger and surrender position us to receive everything God desires to pour out. The baptism of the Holy Spirit isn’t optional; it’s essential for living fully alive in the kingdom.

This message is part of This We Believe: Exploring the Essential Truths That Shape Our Faith and Who We Are, a series on the authority of Scripture, who God is, the person and work of Jesus, the power of the Holy Spirit, the purpose of the Church, and our mission in the world.
