The San Diego Padres completed their seventh sweep of the season with an emphatic 8-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins at Petco Park, powered by a monster afternoon from Fernando Tatis Jr.
Tatis went 4-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base, becoming only the third Padre to record four hits, two homers and a stolen base in the same game. Jackson Merrill added a 414-foot home run for his second homer in as many days, while Luis Rengifo delivered the game's turning point with a two-run double during San Diego's four-run sixth inning.
Walker Buehler continued his resurgence with six innings of one-run baseball, allowing four hits with no walks, and the Padres bullpen finished the job.
San Diego scored seven runs over its final three offensive innings and 21 runs during the three-game sweep. Since July 24, the Padres are 20-7 — the best record in Major League Baseball — while ranking among MLB's leaders in batting average, OPS, runs, home runs and strikeout rate.
