Game 1 did not go the way the Carolina Hurricanes expected, as they lost 6-2 in a rout at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens. Of the five goals given up by Frederik Andersen, none can be attributed to him. That said, what went wrong for the Hurricanes? On the Friday Edition of Locked On Hurricanes, Zach begins the show by sharing his thoughts on how Game 1 went for the Hurricanes. When it comes down to it, the Hurricanes did not look like they were ready to go, just gifting the Canadiens free chances to the net in the first period. Sloppy defense led to four goals and a deficit they could not recover from. Also, they left Andersen out to dry for much of the game. Despite getting an early lead, it did not mean much in the end. Secondly, Zach shares his thoughts on how this does give way to the "rest vs. rust" debate after a game in which the Hurricanes gave up more than 2 goals. The six goals in Game 1 matched a three-game total in other series. What do the Hurricanes need to do to bounce back from that? Finally, Zach concludes the show by sharing what the Hurricanes need to do to even the series back up on Saturday for Game 2. They cannot go down 2-0 in the series with it heading back to Montreal after the weekend. If they want to beat the Eastern Conference "curse", they will need a huge bounce-back win. All of that and more, on the latest edition of Locked On Hurricanes.
