Good afternoon, I'm _ with today's episode of EZ News.
Tai-Ex opening
The Tai-Ex opened down 243-points this morning from yesterday's close, at
48,382 on turnover of 14.2-billion N-T.
The market closed higher on Wednesday, despite giving up some of its early
gains as investors took profits (獲利了結) on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing
ahead of the chipmaker's investor conference - which is scheduled for later
today.
CPC to invest up to US$4.4 billion in Alaska LNG project
The Ministry of Economic Affairs has confirmed that CPC will invest (投資) up
to 4.4-billion US dollars in an Alaska liquefied natural gas project and buy
6-million metric tons of LNG a year once production begins.
According to the ministry, if the project proceeds on schedule, it could
begin supplying LNG to Taiwan as early as 2032.
The ministry says partnership with the project's U-S developer is expected to
diversify (使多元化;分散來源) Taiwan's LNG supplies.
The statements come after U-S President Donald Trump told reporters during
that Taiwan has agreed to buy 30-per cent of the gas from the proposed
liquefied natural gas project for the next 20 years.
WBC outfielder Stuart Fairchild to visit Taiwan in November
And,
Taiwanese-American outfielder Stuart Fairchild will visit Taiwan in November.
According to his agency, the trip will give Fairchild an opportunity to
experience the enthusiasm (熱情) of Taiwan fans in person.
The agency has not released any information concerning when he'll visit
Taiwan or what events his itinerary (行程) will include.
However, the National Development Council has said Fairchild is also
scheduled to receive a Taiwan Employment Gold Card at a public ceremony in
November.
Fairchild hit two home runs for Taiwan at this year's World Baseball Classic
after qualifying through his Taiwanese mother.
RUSSIAN ATTACKS ON LUTSK KILL SIX AS KREMLIN INTENSIFIES BOMBARDMENT OF
UKRAINIAN CIVILIAN SITES
Ukraine's emergency services say six people have been killed and twelve
injured in Russian attacks on civilian (平民的;民用的) sites in the western
Ukrainian city of Lutsk on Wednesday.
The deaths come a day after Russian ballistic missiles struck all three of
Kyiv's power plants overnight, killing five and leaving hundreds of thousands
without electricity — an attack President Volodymyr Zelensky says came with
no advance warning (事先警告) from Western allies.
US President Donald Trump says Washington is still sharing intelligence with
Kyiv, but Ukrainian officials say they were left exposed.
Peter Dickinson in Kyiv says captured Russian documents suggest Moscow's aim
is to destroy civilian infrastructure and break the country's will to resist
through the coming winter months.
France Netherlands Food Loss After Cyberattack on Refrigeration Systems
Supermarkets in France and the Netherlands are dealing with the aftermath
(事件造成的後果) of a cyberattack that disrupted refrigeration systems.
The attack, which began overnight from Sunday to Monday, caused temperatures
to soar (急升), leading to significant food losses.
France's Cybersecurity Agency warned that the attacks might still be ongoing
and advised stores to secure their systems.
In the Netherlands, a major chain had to restart systems after a
cybersecurity incident halted deliveries.
Investigations are underway, but no perpetrators have been identified.
Experts say the attack highlights vulnerabilities in older refrigeration
systems and the need for better cybersecurity measures.
