Brittany Howard talks with Kyle Meredith about how Alabama Shakes unexpectedly found their way back together after reuniting for a friend’s brewery fundraiser, which led from a few songs to an EP and eventually their first album in more than a decade, I Must Be Dreaming. Howard digs into the record’s psychedelic soul sound, rediscovering old songs like “Hold On” through a new perspective, and how the album found its story where our private fears, doubts, and dreams collide with a pretty uncertain world. She also opens up about having to push herself to write when she wanted to disappear, why the anger she sees right now actually gives her hope, and joining the Power to the People concert alongside one of her heroes, Tom Morello.
