Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Ian Holt, acclaimed screenwriter, Dracula historian, documentary researcher and co-author of Dracula: The Un-Dead, the officially endorsed sequel to Bram Stoker's legendary 1897 gothic horror masterpiece, Dracula.A graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, Holt studied creative writing, dramatic arts and acting under the legendary Stella Adler. His fascination with Dracula and the unforgettable portrayal of the Count by Bela Lugosi began during childhood, eventually inspiring a lifelong investigation into the historical and literary origins of the world's most famous vampire.Holt's research took him deep into the mysteries of Transylvania, Romania and the historical figure Vlad the Impaler, whose reputation became intertwined with the Dracula legend. He travelled to sites associated with Vlad, including his birthplace in Sighișoara and the monastery on Snagov Island, traditionally associated with his burial. Holt also developed a screenplay based on In Search of Dracula, the influential nonfiction work by historians Raymond T. McNally and Radu Florescu.A turning point came in 1997 when Holt participated in Dracula '97, a gathering celebrating the 100th anniversary of Bram Stoker's original novel. There, he presented his provocative research paper, How Dracula May Be Responsible for the Discovery of America, and began developing the idea of continuing Stoker's immortal story.Holt subsequently joined forces with Dacre Stoker, the great-grandnephew of Bram Stoker, to create Dracula: The Un-Dead, published in 2009. Drawing upon extensive historical research and previously unused material from Bram Stoker's original notes, the authors produced a sequel endorsed by the Stoker family.Set in London in 1912, approximately 25 years after the events of the original novel, Dracula: The Un-Dead follows Quincey Harker, the son of Jonathan and Mina Harker, as he becomes entangled in a terrifying mystery surrounding his parents' past. As surviving members of the group that once confronted Count Dracula begin meeting violent deaths, an unsettling question emerges: Did Dracula truly perish, or has an even more terrifying evil returned to seek revenge? The novel brings together familiar characters, historical personalities, vampire mythology, shocking revelations and the dark atmosphere that made the original Dracula an enduring literary phenomenon.
