Jesus the Skull Crusher: Genesis 3:15, the Divine Warrior & Biblical Hope with Joel Richardson

Dela

What if the gospel is far bigger than simply going to heaven when you die?

In this episode of The Shaun Tabatt Show, Shaun sits down with bestselling author and Bible teacher Joel Richardson to discuss his new book, Gospel of the Skull Crusher: The Gloriously Good News of God's Plan to Fix Everything.

Joel takes us back to Genesis 3:15, where God promises that the Seed of the woman will crush the serpent's head. He argues that this promise introduces a storyline that runs throughout Scripture: the conflict between the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman, culminating in Jesus Christ as the conquering Messiah and Divine Warrior.

Shaun and Joel also explore why the gospel encompasses far more than the salvation of individual souls. Their conversation moves from Pharaoh and Goliath to the return of Jesus, the restoration of creation, suffering and divine healing, and the often-neglected Christian hope of bodily resurrection.

Joel also gets deeply personal about what biblical hope means when healing doesn't come as expected. He explains why Christians need a theology robust enough to make room for miracles while also standing faithfully with people through suffering.

In this episode:

  • Why Joel calls Jesus “the Skull Crusher”
  • How Genesis 3:15 establishes a theme that runs through the Bible
  • The conflict between the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman
  • Surprising connections involving Pharaoh, Goliath, and the serpent
  • Why Joel says Christians have “lost the plot” when it comes to Jesus as the Divine Warrior
  • Why the gospel is about the restoration of all things
  • Miracles, healing, and developing a biblical theology of suffering
  • Why the return of Jesus is the ultimate hope of the suffering and oppressed
  • The importance of physical, bodily resurrection
  • Why Christians were never meant to spend eternity as disembodied spirits
  • The remarkably tangible hope Scripture gives us for the age to come

Joel puts it powerfully: “The only hope that we have is someday the King is coming back and he is going to make all things right.”
