Popular culture depicts Satan and demons as ruling hell and tormenting the unrighteous dead, but Scripture paints a different picture. Hell is a place of imprisonment and punishment for the unrighteous dead and fallen angels. Satan currently operates in the earthly realm, but at the end of the age, he will be judged and thrown into the Lake of Fire for eternal punishment. Ultimately, hell, like every other place in God's creation, is under God's authority, not Satan's.
