Picture this: it's ancient Rome, and somebody has decided to put on a show. You file into a giant stone stadium with tens of thousands of people. There's food. There's blood down in the arena. And you didn't pay to get in, the games are free. So who paid for all this? The powerful did. Because a poet named Juvenal was already side-eyeing his neighbors, writing that you could keep an entire population happy and quiet with two things: bread and circuses. Now fast forward two thousand years. Trade the stone Coliseum for a phone and a livestream, and meet Sierra Taylor, known online as Queen Opp, and Michelle Jones, who the internet came to know as Chelle. Part One is how we got here: two women who met at a ShopRite and were actually friends, and a slow drift from babysitting, to staying over, to a bag, to another bag, to a whole life quietly moved into somebody else's house. The foot-in-the-door effect. Coercive control. Live gifting and a digital tip jar. And the oldest business model there is, dressed in new technology: someone creates a spectacle, someone sells access, and someone shows up. From the Coliseum, to P.T. Barnum, to the Bronx Zoo, to a phone in a hand, the venue keeps changing and the crowd never leaves. How the hell did we get here, and who's sitting in the seats? This is Investigation Chancla, where we're nosy, but nuanced. We don't just ask what happened. We ask what the hell is going on. Part Two, the courts, the outcome, and the number, is coming. 🛍️ MERCH: https://investigation-chancla-shop.fourthwall.com 🩴 SUPPORT THE INVESTIGATION Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/InvestigationChancla Buy me a coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/investigationchancla And subscribing is a free way to support what we do.
